Mission Statement
CCA is Canada's premier forum for discussion of the political and economic issues in the hemisphere that are critical to Canada, and particularly Canadian trade and investment. Through our symposia and meetings, we promote Canadian thinking on the critical issues and engagement with business and political leaders throughout the region. We are non-partisan and member-based.
Prime Minister Harper meets Canada's most influential Hispanics
Ottawa, June 2, 2010 - For the first time, on May 27, 2010, a delegation of influential Hispanic Canadians from across Canada met with the Prime Minister of Canada, the Rt. Hon. Stephen Harper. During their visit to Parliament Hill, the delegates also attended a speech by Mexican President Felipe Calderon, were publicly recognized during the Parliament's Question Period by the Hon. Randy Hoback, and held a private meeting with James Lambert, Director General for Latin America and the Caribbean at the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Canada (DFAIT). The “10 most influential Hispanic Canadians” national awards program is organized by the Canadian Hispanic Business Association (CHBA) with the support of its main sponsor Scotiabank. Award winners represent thirteen Spanish-speaking countries living in five different Canadian provinces. The Hispanic delegation included Esteban Lasso, Dr. Carlos Morillo, Dr. Ivar Mendez, Johnny Campuzano, Dr. Julio Torres-Recinos, Lita Gonzalez-Dickey, Dr. Marlinda Freire, Mario Perez, Dr. Carmen Romero, Dr. Marco A. Guzman and Oscar A. Jofre Jr, and led by the awards organizer Mauricio Ospina. Nominations for this year's awards were declared open until July 31, 2010. CCA organized an event to present the signing of the
Canada-Panama Free Trade Agreement with
Honourable Peter Van Loan,, Minister of International Trade, and
His Excellency Minister Roberto Henriquez, Minister of Commerce and Industry from Panama. Other distinguished guests present were Victor Perez, Panama's Minister of Agriculture, Lisa Raitt, Canada's Minister of Labour and Peter Kent, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas).
